Announcing the First Youth STEM Matters Research Conference

The Youth STEM Matters team are excited to announce that next month, we’re holding our first ever Youth STEM Matters Research Conference!

Taking place on 19th June 2021, 1-6pm BST (GMT+1) (save the date!), the Research Conference will showcase and celebrate the difference that young people are making through STEM research, and equip more young people with the skills and opportunities they need to tackle global challenges.

Join us for a day packed with inspiring talks, opportunities and celebration of youth using research to change the world! The Youth STEM Matters Research Conference is for you if you are…

  • A young person interested in STEM or who wants to make a difference - first and foremost, the Research Conference is designed with you in mind. In fact, it’s been designed entirely for youth, by youth. Join us to access new opportunities, showcase your STEM projects, and be empowered to make a difference to the issues you care about.

  • Someone who works with young people in STEM - whether you’re a teacher/university lecturer, a STEM competition organiser, or are representing a science fair, you won’t want to miss out on the launch of our Youth STEM Matters Affiliation Programme. Join us to hear about how the young people you work with can access our opportunities.

  • A STEM professional or organisation - be inspired by how the next generation are taking action for a better world, and discover why you should join our mission to empower youth to use STEM to tackle the world’s biggest challenges!

 

Apply to be part of the Research Showcase

The Research Showcase gives YOUth a platform to share your science, technology, engineering & maths (STEM) based projects with the world. Open to youth aged 22 & under globally, selected individuals and teams will have the chance to display their research project as part of our virtual exhibition. We also have a number of spaces in our programme for young people to give a 10 minute talk about your project live on our virtual stage.

Applications are open from 15:00 BST (GMT+1) on Tuesday 25th May, and all applications must be submitted by the deadline on Friday 4th June 2021, 17:00 BST (GMT+1).

Mhairi McCann

Mhairi (she/her) is Youth STEM 2030’s Founder & CEO, and her work here is fuelled by a deep drive to create possibility for other young changemakers in STEM. Based in Inverclyde, Scotland, her expertise lies in creating meaningful, inclusive and participatory youth inclusion in decision-making. A generalist, Mhairi brings a strategic approach to the pursuit of our mission, and enjoys thinking of the bigger picture and ‘joining the dots’. She has a strong focus on equity & inclusion, is especially passionate about ocean conservation and, in her free time, enjoys volunteering and spending time in nature on long walks with Gordon the dog. Mhairi is a 776 Foundation Climate Fellow, and a 2021 National Geographic Young Explorer, and for her work at Youth STEM 2030, she was named Winner of the 2022 Young Scot Environment Award.
