Who We’re Looking For

The Research Showcase celebrates and creates a platform for young people who are creating a better world through STEM research, innovation and science communication - if you’ve done a STEM-based project that you want to share, we want to hear from you!

Youth globally aged 22 & under can apply, either individually or as part of a team!

This is for you if you’ve done a project which is…

  • STEM-based

  • Has a positive impact on at least 1 UN Sustainable Development Goal

    1. Published or unpublished projects are welcome

    2. Complete or incomplete projects are welcome, but if your project is incomplete, you should be able to show that you’ve reached a stage where you can present on what you have already worked on

  • “I was very excited (and nervous) to be the youngest speaker at the Youth STEM Matters Research Conference. I met a lot of amazing youth through Youth STEM Matters, learned new skills and had an amazing experience through the research process. At the conference, I enjoyed learning about the research youth, from all around the world, are doing in STEM.” – Miriam Turk, Speaker & Research Showcase Participant

  • “This conference allowed me to share my research experience with the rest of the world and potentially inspire the youth to take up research as well. Youth STEM Matters proves that young people from around the world can do research and push STEM forward.” – Siva Sainath Reddy Bandi, Speaker & Research Showcase Participant

  • “The STEM exhibition in the expo area produced by students from all over the world was my favourite [part of the] event.” – Eunhye Kim, Research Conference Attendee

What’s Involved

The Research Showcase will take the form of a virtual exhibition. We also have a number of spaces in our programme for young people to give a 10 minute talk about your project live on our virtual stage.

Everyone who applies will be considered for the virtual exhibition - you can indicate whether you’d also like to be considered for giving a 10 minute talk in our application form.

Research Showcase Exhibition

Display your project in a virtual exhibition stand, via a short (2-5 mins) video, and interact with attendees through the exhibition stand chat.

Talk

Dive deeper into your project through giving a 10 minute talk (with or without slides) on our virtual stage.

To get an even better idea of what’s involved, check out the Research Showcase and the talk recordings from our 2022 Youth STEM Matters Research Conference.

What You’ll Gain

  • 🌍 Join a global community of youth changemakers, leaders, researchers & innovators

  • ⚡️ Most of all - make a real difference by empowering other youth as researchers & innovators to tackle the world’s biggest challenges!

How to Apply

Submit your application via our Google Form by 14th July, 5pm BST. In the application, you will be asked to provide some information about yourself and your project, including being asked to answer 4 short questions, which will be used to determine whether you are selected for this opportunity.

The 4 questions you will be asked are…

Project Abstract/Summary: Tell us a bit about your project. If you already have an Abstract as part of your project report, you can use this, and if not, just tell us a bit about your project’s aims, what you did, and why your project is important. Answers should be a maximum of 250 words.

What is your project about? Tell us in a 60 second video!: Here, you’ll be asked to provide a link to a 60 second video (uploaded to YouTube (unlisted is fine!), Vimeo, WeTransfer, or similar) of you telling us about your project. Don’t worry about the film quality or fancy equipment - recording yourself on a mobile phone is fine. Here, your communication and enthusiasm for your research are much more important! Top tip: Don’t go over the 60 second time limit!

Why You?: Why do you want to be part of the Youth STEM Matters Research Conference? Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters.

Why Your Project?: Why would your project be a good fit for the Youth STEM Matters Research Conference? Answers should be a maximum of 500 characters. Top tip: Here you could consider its aims, significance, and its relevance to youth and/or the SDGs.
