Samiksha is a Grade 12 student studying in Singapore. During her free time, Samiksha loves to read, write, draw and watch sci-fi movies. She is am also interested in topics such as climate change, wildlife, psychology, and technology. Samiksha is a Science Communication Editor as part of the Youth STEM Matters Volunteer Team.

Sophia Stefanakis

Environmental Activist and High School Student

Sophia Stefanakis is a high school senior who has conducted research on environmental issues--from coral reef degradation to increasing renewable energy and agricultural accessibility in developing nations. Sophia became interested in agricultural research after listening to first-hand accounts of her late great-grandmother’s struggles as a famine refugee, and through her volunteer work as a Student Leader at Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. Sophia then sifted through millions of geospatial data points to understand the benefits--environmental, cultural, and social--of prioritizing agriculture vs. renewable energy in land allocation theories. As President of her high school’s Green Club, she leads projects to increase sustainability awareness--including recycling plastics or clothing for NYC’s homeless. During her free time, Sophia enjoys teaching STEAM classes to children at foster homes and homeless shelters, thrifting, and singing songs in foreign languages and of course, singing along to Taylor Swift’s discography. Sophia is driven to inspire the next generation and speak out for people across the globe to champion improved global access to agriculture and clean energy.

Shalini is a Life Sciences Editor at Youth Stem Matters and a sixth form student, with expertise in areas such as evolutionary biology, genetics and applications of computing in research. She is passionate about helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Gender Equality and Quality Education, by inspiring young people to pursue their scientific goals, and learning from those around her. Outside of STEM, she loves to bake, read and write.

Vivian is a passion-driven & curious first-year student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, considering majoring in electrical engineering & computer science. Vivian has a deep love for energy, environmental justice, entrepreneurship and social justice, especially surrounding period poverty. Her massive transformative purpose is to serve humanity and inspire its progression towards equal accessibility to resources. A teacher at heart ,Vivian is committed to igniting scientific curiosity and contributing to education system development in marginalised communities. Vivian values consistent effort, communication, collaboration, networking and “unhu ubuntu”, meaning “I am because we are”/ “humanity towards others".

Joti Gokaraju is a 14-year-old high school student from Saskatoon, Canada. His passions range from STEM to Social Justice and more. Currently, he focuses on material science, designing new, cheaper, and more efficient flexible electronic devices, and the communication of important science topics through films, projects, and presentations. His projects have won national awards and been featured in international prizes for their innovations, creativity, and discoveries.

Reeva Khokhar

High School Student, STEM Enthusiast, AI Researcher, and Founder of MedLook

Reeva Khokhar is a 15-year-old high school student based in New Jersey. Her passions lie in the intersection of entrepreneurship and technology and she hopes to utilize her technological skills to leave a lasting mark in the world. She has won in 15+ international hackathons including some hosted by Harvard Innovation Labs, University of Waterloo, TechTogether New York and she has even won in the Congressional App Challenge. Along with that, Reeva is the president of the Girls Who Code club at her school, she serves on the National Teen Advisory Board of Techgirlz (a non-profit organization aimed at bridging the gender gap in STEM) and she is actively researching Artificial Intelligence at Rutgers University. In the future, Reeva aspires to further her start-up, MedLook, and she hopes to obtain a dual-degree in both Computer Science and Business.

Elly Savatia

Inventor, Tech Optimist & Social Entrepreneur

Elly Savatia is a 21 year old inventor, technology optimist and budding social entrepreneur. Since childhood he has purposed to pursue technology driven changemaking and innovations. His inventions include The Stair Ramp - an assistive technology robotic staircase that allows independent mobility for wheelchair users - and in 2019, he was the Captain for the Official National Team which represented Kenya in the annual First Global Robotics Competition in Dubai. Currently, he is the Co - Founder and CEO of Veezaviz, an assistive technology startup developing leading-edge technology-based solutions—including those leveraging the power of AI and Machine learning—to address the accessibility barrier for the Deaf. Elly’s work has been recognised by numerous awards and accolades, including being named a Global Teen Leader in 2020.

She is the founder and project manager of Youth Mentorship Project, a youth organization dedicated to teaching underprivileged students in Thailand the values of sustainability and resilience. In September, she represented Thailand at the Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition Pre-COP26 event in Italy.

Saida Mammadova

Climate Activist and High School Student

Meet Saida Mammadova, climate activist and high school senior from Azerbaijan. She is among active youth contributing to the achievement of SDG's globally. In order to contribute to the climate action, she founded "Green Azerbaijan" voluntary youth organization in her country. She loves to play intellectual games and volunteers at her spare time. Saida will be the facilitator of the "Empowering Others" session at the Youth STEM Summit.

Keyang (Swindar) Zhou

Social Activist and SDGs Changemaker

Swindar is a social activist and climate action advocate both in her school and community. Growing up in a competitive atmosphere in STEM fields, she spent countless hours studying math and physics. Then, she worked as a math tutor in IB Math higher-level classes to help more girls study math. As a motivated leader of Girl Up, she organized STEAM X Girls workshops to empower more girls to pursue their dreams in STEM, encouraging them to leadership roles and establishing their confidence. Additionally, Swindar utilized computer science technology to develop a meditation applet on the Wechat platform to help high school students better concentrate on their studies and improve their school performance. Beyond that, Swindar is also a climate activist who combined the power of technology and business to implement a water purification system in a remote village near her hometown, aiming to raise awareness of water safety issues and educate them about the importance of STEM education.

Poppy is in third year of high school and enjoys studying a wide variety of subjects, especially all the sciences and technology. She is passionate about helping promote STEM to help solve some of the biggest challenges and is doing this through the Youth STEM Summit Design Team and the COP26 co-design group to help combat the current climate crisis. In her free time Poppy loves to do sports (swimming, netball, tennis & athletics), volunteer with other organisations and hang out with friends.

Trisha Beher

Activist, Artist, Social Entrepreneur, and Freshman at Cornell

Trisha Beher is an 18-year-old activist, artist, and social entrepreneur using impact-driven advocacy to drive change in communities. Trisha is the founder and CEO of The Art Shine Foundation (ASF), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to positively impact communities through the arts. ASF recently launched a 3-day STEAMivism conference with 25+ speakers and has reached 20,000+ youth globally. Trisha is currently a freshman at Cornell University’s Dyson School of Business and is a Meinig Family National Scholar for leadership.

Isabela is a front-end developer and an advocate for the inclusion of Latinx underrepresented communities in STEM, music and politics. She is an adventurous woman, who loves to use storytelling to share cultures and stories. Isabela loves to identify as an ARTivist because she truly believes we need art’s creativity, diversity and freedom to develop impactful and inclusive technology. A member of the Youth STEM Summit Design Team, Isabela says “I’m looking forward to seeing you at the 2021 Youth STEM Summit and hearing your story!”

Yara Obeidi

Youth Ambassador and Student

Yara Obeidi is a Palestinian-Canadian student passionate about psychology and social advocacy. Besides being a Youth Ambassador for the Summit, she leads a youth neuroscience group called Synapse Society with Stimulus NGO. As well, she is currently one of six Youth Engagement Advisors in Canada on behalf of Cuso International, where she works on improving international development in accordance with the United Nations' SDGs. Yara loves learning about different cultures and is proficient in four languages.

Rood Myard Medgine CELANGE, Haitian, Agronomist Engineer and Master student.
She is interested in the development of gender and young people as well as their involvement in promoting endogenous and sustainable development.
She is a young woman engaged in a military career and with various youth associations as a member and volunteer. Young IGF Ambassador 2021, she brings her expertise as Development Manager of the Center for Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship and also Membership Manager at Internet Society Chapter Haiti.

Dev Sharma

Member of Youth Parliament & Chair of Bite Back 2030 Youth Board

Dev Sharma is the Youth MP for Leicester & Chair of Bite Back 2030, a youth-led movement campaigning for all young people to be given equal access to a good diet. Dev has delivered a Food Charter to no. 10 Downing Street, met with a number of key influential cabinet ministers and Labour leader Keir Starmer, and won the lauded Diana Award for his food poverty activism. Also a Member of the Youth Parliament for Leicestershire, Dev has been a powerful voice for youth on issues such as holiday hunger and Free School Meals, drawing on his own experiences at school to speak on behalf of his peers. He’s also been a vocal campaigner on the influence of junk food advertising on young people, and started an online open letter campaign to Boris Johnson and Matt Hancock. In March 2021 he was successful in getting the government to ban junk food advertising online, after his campaign was supported by celebrities such as Jamie Oliver and other large charities.

WiTech Founder and Stanford Sophomore

Audrey Pe (@audreyisabelpe) is a sophomore at Stanford University and the founder and executive director of WiTech (@witechorg) -- a nonprofit organisation based in the Philippines that aims to educate, inspire, and empower youth to break gender barriers and use tech to make a difference in society. A three-time TEDx, ASEAN and UN speaker, she has delivered over 100+ talks and has also been featured in local and international publications like Forbes, Esquire, and Elite Daily. Her work was also highlighted in the 2020 United Nations Girls Education Initiative documentary.

Delicia is a pioneer for environmental activism, as well as gender empowerment and feminism, through her post as the Girl Up Tanzania Coalition leader, which is a branch of the UN Foundation, Girl Up Campaign. Currently, Delicia serves in the Commonwealth Climate Change youth network, in the Policy and Advocacy committee. She is pro-peace, and advocates through volunteering as a Global Peace Foundation volunteer and ambassador for the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN). Delicia is part of the Wiomsa Western Indian Ocean Marine Association, and the Tanzanian facilitator for Ocean’s Voice, which is under YOUNGO, a constituency of UN Climate. In addition, Delicia is part of SOA Tanzania as the programs manager, as well as the Research Group for the World Youth parliament for Water.

Mhairi McCann

Mhairi is Youth STEM 2030’s Founder & CEO. Based in Inverclyde, Scotland, she has a strong belief in the positive difference young people can make to our world through STEM. Mhairi was named one of the UK’s Top 50 Women in Sustainability in 2020 and is currently part of the Steering Group of SDG Network Scotland. When she’s not creating STEM opportunities for young people, she can usually be found volunteering.⁠

Maria Theresa Villatoro graduated cum laude from ESCP Business School, where she studied Management in London, Turin, and Berlin. She currently works in financial controlling at Universidad Francisco Gavidia where she specializes in digital transformation and student development. She is a Yunus & Youth Fellow, a UNITE 2030 Youth Delegate, and Global Changemakers Alumni. As a social entrepreneur, she strongly believes that a tech-driven education is our best bet for empowerment while striving for national development. Through her initiative STEM IN A BOX, her team is committed to distributing robots assembled from electrical trash and cardboard in Latin America and Africa.

Charles is an educational and digital development practitioner with over 3 years of transnational work experience. He currently serves as the Chief Development Officer for Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative as well as the Chief Learning Officer of DigiLearns, Nigeria's first adaptive mobile learning solution that leverage SMS and USSD technology to provide low-income learners with access to educational opportunities. His professional background includes work with UNESCO, The Education Commission, TheirWorld, and Education Above All among others.

If Shanjeevan had his choice, he would have gills instead of lungs. He spends as much time as he can scuba diving and blowing bubbles. When he’s a land lover you can find Shanjeevan working on a range of innovative projects that aim to engage, entertain, and educate people about the ocean. He co-founded OceanBiome, a community of talents with a focus on ocean research to map the path to engaging in ocean protection to enable the next generation of leaders to engage in ocean literacy and stewardship to become ocean ambassadors in Sri Lanka. He has numerous accolades under his fins, and is a member of the Sustainable Development Goals Children’s Parliament; the world’s first such parliament. His goal is to create a world where the ocean doesn't need protection.

Navjot Sawhney

Founder of The Washing Machine Project

"Nav Sawhney is the founder of The Washing Machine Project. Sawhney was born and brought up in London but his family are from unpartitioned India. During the 1947 Indian Independence, Sawhney’s father and his family fled their home from what now is Pakistan with only the clothes on their backs. Having built lifesaving cookstoves in rural India and being a trustee of an international development charity, Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK), Sawhney has founded The Washing Machine Project. 70% of the world’s population lacks access to an electric washing machine. Handwashing clothes sounds like a simple task but for many women around the world, it poses a significant obstacle to their wellbeing and livelihood. By providing displaced and low-income communities with a manual washing solution that saves time and water, The Washing Machine Project aims to empower women with the time to take charge over their lives."

Alejandra Carrasco

Alejandra is a student at Dartmouth College and part of the King Scholars Program.
Social change is part of her life, and with WAWA Laptop, Alejandra want to democratize access to technology and improve high-quality education in the most vulnerable areas of the world with. WAWA—which means baby in Quechua—is the first eco-friendly laptop made in Peru. You can power it with a solar panel, and its structure is made of recycled wood. It has a free operating system and contributes to the circular economy, as well as contributing towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, especially number 4: Quality Education.

Catherine Andary

Undergraduate Student Researcher

Catherine is a third year honours Microbiology and Immunology and Scholar's Electives student at Western University in Canada. As a previous national science fair participant and current student researcher in neurodegenerative disease, Catherine is passionate about using STEM and research to make a difference in global health. When not in the lab, Catherine enjoys playing instruments, participating in mental health advocacy, and encouraging other youth to be involved in STEM through opportunities like the Youth STEM Summit!

Sophia Stefanakis

Environmental Activist and High School Student

Sophia Stefanakis is a high school senior who has conducted research on environmental issues--from coral reef degradation to increasing renewable energy and agricultural accessibility in developing nations. Sophia became interested in agricultural research after listening to first-hand accounts of her late great-grandmother’s struggles as a famine refugee, and through her volunteer work as a Student Leader at Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. Sophia then sifted through millions of geospatial data points to understand the benefits--environmental, cultural, and social--of prioritizing agriculture vs. renewable energy in land allocation theories. As President of her high school’s Green Club, she leads projects to increase sustainability awareness--including recycling plastics or clothing for NYC’s homeless. During her free time, Sophia enjoys teaching STEAM classes to children at foster homes and homeless shelters, thrifting, and singing songs in foreign languages and of course, singing along to Taylor Swift’s discography. Sophia is driven to inspire the next generation and speak out for people across the globe to champion improved global access to agriculture and clean energy.

Jacqueline Prawira

Student Researcher and Developer of Sustainable Materials

Jacqueline Prawira is a high school senior and student researcher. For six years, she has focused on solving the plastic problem by upcycling everyday waste. She believes that a circular economy is key to a sustainable future. In her free time, Jacqueline enjoys reading, biking, and playing with her dog.

Anne-Rosa spends most of her time researching & writing about medical sciences, especially immunology and neuroimmunology. Shalini Sellam

Life Sciences Editor at Youth Stem Matters

Shalini is a Life Sciences Editor at Youth Stem Matters and a sixth form student, with expertise in areas such as evolutionary biology, genetics and applications of computing in research. She is passionate about helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Gender Equality and Quality Education, by inspiring young people to pursue their scientific goals, and learning from those around her. Outside of STEM, she loves to bake, read and write.

André Victor Oliveira Avellar

Young Scientist and (Bio)chemistry Enthusiast

André Avellar is a gap year student and passion-driven young scientist in the Translational Medical Science field. Since 2018, he found in science the opportunity to lead the change in his community and country. Being a Regeneron-ISEF 2021 finalist, André is passionate about disseminating scientific knowledge for youth, engaging them to take up action through their passions in STEM. Currently, André acts as a Chemistry Projects Advisor and a Judge in Brazilian science fairs. Apart from STEM, he enjoys beaches, cycling, and hanging out with friends.

Bupe Chikumbi

Medical Student and Founder of Genius Education Zambia

Bupe Chikumbi is an impact driven leader with 8 years experience in education advocacy. She is founder and Executive Director of Genius Education Zambia, Zambia's fastest growing EdTech that focuses on STEM education. Bupe is passionate about and committed to the SDGs. She is a Youth Delegate at UNITE 2030 and Younga 21, an Ashoka Changemakers Everywhere Academy Fellow, a Young European Leadership member, a World Merit member and an active member of Global Changemakers and member of the Y7 community. A graduate human biologist and medical student at the University of Zambia.

Mahashri Ranjith Kumar

Youth STEM Summit Design Team Member

Mahashri is a high school freshman who is deeply passionate about using STEM to tackle urgent global crises. As an active Model UN delegate, she is interested in debating and developing different solutions to combat global challenges. Mahashri is currently researching how artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to mitigate climate change. She enjoys computer programming, writing, public speaking, and creating mandalas!

Fernanda Matsumoto

Girl Up Club Founder and High School Student

Fernanda is a high school student from Brazil. She is passionate about gender equality and robotics. To fight for gender equality, she founded a Girl Up Club, where she organized a donation of more than 10 000 pads to combat menstrual poverty, and STEMifique-se, where she gives space for girls in STEM to raise their voices. Also, she is a member of New York Academy of Science and a girl scout.

Hammed Kayode Alabi

Social Entrepreneur

Hammed is a Social Entrepreneur, Author, SDGs Youth Champion, and Educator with 12 years of active citizenship and volunteering experience. He completed his Masters degree in Africa and International Development at the prestigious University of Edinburgh through the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship. He currently works as the Educational Mentoring Coordinator at Refugee Education (UK), where he currently manages the mentoring hub in West London and connects young refugees/asylum seekers to mentors for educational support.

Mhairi McCann

Founder & CEO of Youth STEM 2030

Mhairi is Youth STEM 2030’s Founder & CEO. Based in Inverclyde, Scotland, she has a strong belief in the positive difference young people can make to our world through STEM. Mhairi was named one of the UK’s Top 50 Women in Sustainability in 2020 and is currently part of the Steering Group of SDG Network Scotland. When she’s not creating STEM opportunities for young people, she can usually be found volunteering.⁠

Danielle Boyer

Youth Robotics Designer and Educational Activist

Danielle Boyer is a young Indigenous (Ojibwe) and Queer robotics inventor and advocate for youth who has been teaching kids since she was ten. Danielle creates equitable learning solutions for minority youths with robots that she designs and gives away for free through her charity, The STEAM Connection. She is one of PEOPLE Magazine's Girls Changing the World, is a L'oreal Paris Woman of Worth, is a MIT Solve Indigenous Communities Fellow, and is a Verizon Forward for Good Winner.
