We're Going to COP26...And We're Bringing Your Voices With Us!

We’re excited to be involved in the ‘STEM and the Climate’ event taking place in the Green Zone at COP26 on 7th November, in collaboration with INWES (International Network of Women Engineers & Scientists), Scottish Engineering, 3M and Primary Engineer!

The event will have a live audience in Glasgow, and will also be available virtually on COP26’s YouTube channel…And we’re bringing the voices of youth globally with us!

As part of our event, we’re creating a video which will give a platform to young people around the world at COP26 - read on to find out how you can be part of it!

Share Your Voice in the Video

Our video will feature the voices of young people around the world, giving youth a platform at COP26…
We’re asking YOUth 3 big questions!

1) The Impact of Climate Change: How does climate change impact you, and/or the people in your community?

2) Youth for Climate Action: What are you doing to tackle the climate crisis? [we are especially keen to hear about any STEM-based projects or entrepreneurial climate action!]

3) Message to Decision Makers: If you could tell decision-makers one thing about climate change, and the action we need to take at COP26, what would you tell them?

Your answer to each question should be kept concise, up to a maximum of 15 seconds. Please ensure you have read our Filming Guidance (available below) before recording your submission.

Submissions are open to youth globally age 24 & under until the deadline of 11am BST Sunday 24th October.

Filming Guidance

Following this guidance will help ensure that your submission has the best chance of being included in our COP26 video…

  • Don’t worry about having fancy equipment - most smartphones will be fine for filming with!

  • When filming, please ensure the camera is held steady, and film landscape (not vertical).

  • Pick a quiet and well-lit area to record your video in.

  • Have a two-second pause at the start before you speak, and at the end once you have finished speaking (this makes the editing process easier for our team).

  • Film each question separately, rather than one big recording.

  • You do not need to add captions or any music/effects to your video - our team will add these.

  • Wear whatever clothing you’re comfortable in, but avoid clothing with slogans/images/logos that are offensive or may be divisive.

  • Make sure your background doesn't reveal your location too much, so your privacy is protected (e.g. avoid standing next to a sign with your road name on it).

  • Keep your message concise (don’t go over the time limits) and remember that passion is more important than perfection!

Check out our 2020 Youth STEM Summit video for some examples of videos which follow this guidance.

Once you’ve filmed your 3 videos, you’ll need to add them to a Google Drive or use a file sharing service such as WeTransfer to share your videos with us (depending on the file size, you may also be able to email them to us at mhairi@youthstem2030.org). You should still complete our submission form, regardless of what method you use to share your videos.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is COP26?

Can I also attend the event?

COP26 is the UN Climate Change Conference, which takes place this November in Glasgow, Scotland. It will bring together people from around the world, including world leaders, negotiators, government representatives, and businesses, to tackle climate change.

Our event is part of the Green Zone, which will host a range of 200 events and 100+ exhibitors at Glasgow Science Centre - these events will be open to the public.

Yes! Tickets for the Green Zone events are now available and are open to the public - if you’re going to be in Glasgow on 7th November, book your free ticket to join our event ‘STEM for the Climate’ now!

Not able to be in Glasgow? Join virtually via the COP26 YouTube!

Who can submit a video?

Youth globally, aged 24 & under. There’s no minimum age - if you’re old enough to have something to say, you’re old enough!

If you’re under 16, we will need permission from a parent or guardian for your participation, and will ask them to complete a consent form when you apply.

Will everyone who submits be included in the final video?

We aim to give a platform to as many young people as possible through the video, but if we receive a large number of submissions, sadly we may not be able to include them all. We will select submissions to ensure we give a platform to young people around the world, of a range of ages, speaking on a variety of issues/topics.

Please note that your submission does not guarantee your inclusion in the final video, and that we will not give a platform to content which is discriminatory or hateful.
